Key Stage 1

In Key Stage 1 we build on the skills that have been developed during the child's time in Early Years Foundation Stage. Throughout the year we teach the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Computing and Religious Education (RE). The foundation subjects; Design and Technology, History, Geography, Art and Design, Music, Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) and Physical Education (PE) are taught alongside the core subjects.

We make good use of the different environments around our school to make learning exciting and stimulating. These include the creative arts studio, outside in the school grounds and our beautiful village of Berkswell. Children's experiences are also enhanced by educational visits that take place throughout the year.

Across the school we foster a love of reading and the children are encouraged to read a range of books from an early age. The main reading scheme in Key Stage One is the Oxford Reading Tree which is supported by a range of other texts.

Phonics
Phonics is taught daily, using the Letters and Sounds document and is reinforced across the curriculum.
